Oil on canvas, signed by the artist on the front and backside - 2025 Steen Larsen’s art draws its deep inspiration from the Båstnäs Car Cemetery, an abandoned car repair shop located on the border between Norway and Sweden. The site, which has been abandoned for decades, contains a wealth of old, rusty cars left behind by their previous owners. This unique landscape of decay and abandoned technology becomes the focal point of Larsen’s Junk Yard series, where he examines how nature slowly takes over and transforms the man-made. In his works, Larsen captures not only the physical traces of decay, but also the cyclical process where nature gradually integrates with the metal and shapes of the cars. Trees, moss and roots spread into the old cars, which are slowly swallowed up and transformed by the landscape. Båstnäs Car Cemetery becomes a symbol of the eternal balance between man’s creative urge and the relentless forces of nature. Larsen's art invites reflection on the passage of time, change and renewal, where the abandoned is given new life in interaction with nature. |
